چکیده
We study the part of the renormalized, cutoff QED light-front Hamiltonian that does not change particle number. The Hamiltonian contains interactions that must be treated in second-order bound state perturbation theory to obtain hyperfine structure. We show that a simple unitary transformation leads directly to the familiar Breit-Fermi spin-spin and tensor interactions, which can be treated in degenerate first-order bound-state perturbation theory, thus simplifying analytic light-front QED calculations. The method of flow equations is applied to QED on the light front. Requiring that the particle number conserving terms in the Hamiltonian are considered to be diagonal and the other terms off-diagonal an effective Hamiltonian is obtained which reduces the positronium problem to a two-particle problem, since the particle number violating contributions are eliminated. Using an effective electron-...
متن کاملOn rotations in front-form dynamics
Quantum field theories in front-form dynamics are not manifestly rotationally invariant. We study a model bound-state equation in 3+1 dimensional front-form dynamics, which was shown earlier to reproduce the Bohr and hyperfine structure of positronium. We test this model with regard to its rotational symmetry and find that rotational invariance is preserved to a high degree. Also, we find and q...
متن کاملLight-front Hamiltonians for heavy quarks and gluons
Light front (LF) Hamiltonian operators for effective particles in quantum field theory (QFT) provide a new path toward understanding of hadronic structure and interactions. The origin of new thrust is a far reaching simplification of the approach in comparison to the standard form of dynamics: boosts are kinematical, instantaneous potentials can exist on the front hyperplane without contradicti...
متن کاملFine and hyperfine structure in different bound systems
We demonstrate that the generalized Gell-Mann–Low theorem permits for a systematic expansion around the nonrelativistic limit when applied to bound states in the Wick-Cutkosky model, Yukawa theory, and QED (in Coulomb gauge). We apply this expansion to obtain new results for the fine and hyperfine structure of bound states in the cases of the Wick-Cutkosky model and Yukawa theory, and reproduce...
متن کاملNon-perturbative evaluation of some QED contributions to the muonic hydrogen n = 2 Lamb shift and hyperfine structure
The largest contributions to the n = 2 Lamb-shift, fine structure interval and 2s hyperfine structure of muonic hydrogen are calculated by exact numerical evaluations of the Dirac equation, rather than by a perturbation expansion in powers of 1/c, in the framework of non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics. Previous calculations and the validity of the perturbation expansion for light elements...
